Gets all the wear and tear off!

I've used the black 'small block' eraser since buying my CRBN paddle 3+ years ago and it has kept my paddle faces in great shape. A friend just said not to use it because it causes the carbon to degrade (he recommended some kind of solution to clean carbon fiber paddles). Do you still recommend the block eraser and why is it a better product?
